• What exactly is baptism in a nutshell?
Bapstism is the act of obedience whereby the Christian believer publicly identifies and relates with Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection through immersion in water.
Raymond Lombard says it like this:
“The sacrament of baptism demonstrates what has happened in the heart of a believer. He has died and has been buried with Christ. Therefore baptism symbolizes the grave of the old nature, and rising from the water symbolizes
the new life in Christ.”
• Why do we baptize?
Here at West Rand Bikers Church we believe in the command the Jesus has given us:
Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, BAPTIZING them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Because of this, we believe in this Christian Discipline of baptizm as a basic fundemental foundation in the life of every believer. Jesus commanded us, and therefore we follow His command and baptize believers in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
• How can I be baptized?
Raymond Lombard makes this statement:
“Baptism by immersion is only for those who confess their faith in Jesus Christ. This baptism is not for little children or for adults. The baptism of the New Testament is the baptism of the believer.”
1. Are you a Christian/Believer?
Have you given your heart to God and are living a life of active relationship with Jesus Christ? If so,
then you are eligible for baptism.
2. Do you understand baptism and choose to follow this command of Jesus?
Baptism is ultimately a choice we need to make. If you want to take your relationship with Jesus to the next level and you want to publicly confess what He has done in your heart as believer. Then you can be baptized!
(Do not confuse christening or sprinkling of little children as baptism. As it is an active CHOICE that you need to make. As baby, there can be no such choice, and therefor baptism can only take place once the believer chooses to follow Jesus’ example and command to be baptized.)
